Who We Are

Neighborhood Solar Equity is a partnership between two mission-aligned organizations, Community Renewable Energy and Root + Branch. They have partnered to create a family of projects that harness renewable energy technology to create shared value for our neighborhoods.

To reduce the financial burden to nonprofit partners in D.C, we develop, finance, own, and maintain the solar photovoltaic system for our nonprofit host for twenty years. To reduce the financial burden to nonprofit partners in DC, we develop, finance, own, and maintain the solar photovoltaic system for our nonprofit host for 20 years. NSE projects provide clean energy to the nonprofit host. To learn more about our NSE model and the impact for nonprofit, institutional and public hosts, check this out.

To further expand the impact of clean energy, our NSE projects reinvest the proceeds of these systems back into our surrounding neighborhoods through community development efforts.

This integrated model of solar maximizes the impact of clean energy while sharing the benefits with our community.

Every Neighborhood Solar Equity project strives to make more winners with solar.

District of Columbia Department of Energy and Environment

Solar for All Innovation and Expansion Grantor

Solar for All, a program of the District of Columbia’s Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE), was established by the Renewable Portfolio Standard Expansion Amendment Act of 2016 (The Act). The Act intends to expand DC’s solar capacity, to increase the amount of solar generated within the District, and to provide the benefits of locally-generated solar energy to low-income households, small businesses, nonprofits, and seniors. Funded by the Renewable Energy Development Fund (REDF) and administered by DOEE, Solar for All’s specific targets are to provide the benefits of solar electricity to 100,000 low- income households (at or below 80% Area Median Income), and to reduce their energy bills by 50% (based on the 2016 residential rate class average) by 2032.
